Watch: Today Show Highlights Gas Can Risks

Millions of Americans purchase red gasoline cans every year.

However, what those same consumers may not be aware of, are the dangers those cans pose.

The ubiquitous red gas cans in homes across America, are a ticking time-bomb waiting to explode.  There are horrific examples of children knocking over gas cans with tricycles, fathers filling up chainsaws or lawnmowers and people just walking by the can when a small spark from static electricity or a water heater’s pilot light flashes into the can, causing the can to explode.

On Wednesday, NBC’s Today Show featured a segment highlighting the dangers of gas cans and the subsequent hurdles victims face in trying to receive justice for injuries they’ve suffered.

According to the report, attorneys have filed at least 80 lawsuits during the past two decades on behalf of individuals injured in alleged gas can explosions. Manufacturers and corporate front groups have tried to spin these stories blaming the victims, but now, according to NBC news, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has called on the manufactures to make its gas cans safer.
